About Us

Inventory Services of America was formed in 1969 by three entrepreneurs who created a computer program to process Ford dealership parts inventories. In the late eighties, Gordon Gahagan purchased and ran Inventory Services of America until he sold it to his son, Ken Gahagan, in 2009.

Ken’s background in automotive parts provides him with extensive knowledge and experience to draw upon at ISA president. He has decades of experience. At 16 years of age he worked part-time in the parts department that his father managed at Formolo Ford in Milwaukee. From this point forward, Ken worked his way up, serving in parts positions from delivery, to parts manager at two Ford dealerships in Milwaukee. Since buying ISA from his father in 2009, Ken has been conducting physical inventories of dealerships on a full-time basis.

The ISA Process

ISA prides itself on delivering accurate, timely and problem-free onsite inventory services. Preparation is the key to achieving our consistent service levels. Prior to beginning a general physical inventory, Ken Gahagan will discuss the pending inventory with key dealership stakeholders. We will work with the office manager to identify the target cut-off date required for determination of the general ledger parts inventory book value. Additional information will be obtained regarding the physical layout of the parts department, bin locations, special requirements and identification of the dealer management system used in house.

Once on site we’ll print out count sheets with locations and part numbers. Our inventory team will physically go to every storage location, start at the top of the bin, and count and record inventory values for every part number. Count sheets will then be entered by our data processor personnel, and if needed print a variance report for all shortages and overages. Every variance will be manually re-verified, and inventory records will be adjusted as needed.

Upon completion of the physical inventory activity, you receive the following documentation:

  • Detailed summary of your inventory
  • Variance Report
  • Work In Process
  • Multiple Bin Report

We will finalize and deliver your inventory results in 3 – 5 days, depending upon the size of the inventory. You’ll also receive recommendations regarding improving your inventory management strategies if deficiencies are identified.
